Verified Purchase. Of course the initial controversy was that a blonde actor was going to be portraying for the first time ever, those skepticisms soon died after the release of Casino Royale.

Martin Campbell director of Goldeneye returns to helm this multi-layered, action packed, story-driven Bond experience and pulls out all the stops.

In something of a soft reboot, we finally get to see what it was like for just starting out. We see an array of emotions and reactions that we are not used to seeing in the other entries that feature a more seasoned agent.

Casino Royale set the new standard of greatness after the series had just come off of it's worst movie of the franchise with "Die Another Day", and laid out a path of what the Bond for a new generation would be like.

Craig proved to be worth his weight in gold as an actor of James Bond and someone willing to do many of his own stunts to provide an added element of realism.

I, like many, feared for the future of the franchise. None the less I can definitively say that Daniel Craig's performance in this movie may very well be the best Bond ever on the big screen.

He hits a much needed reset in the series and the focus departs from the gadgets and the girls and more so on the man and the struggle to adapt to his new "Double Oh" status.

Starting off with plenty of action it strikes a perfect balance in the course of the movie. Add some perfectly choreographed fight scenes, a record breaking car roll-over scene, and the mental game between he and Mads Mikkelsen over the tables, and there is simply nothing not to love about this film.

The closing scene where proffers forth his first utterance of the iconic "Bond. James Bond. This collectors edition is packaged nicely and includes some nice extras to help one grasp the depth that Ion Productions took to modernize the Bond series and make Daniel Craig the new face of MI6.

Casino Royale is my favorite James Bond movie and even though, at the time of purchasing this blu - ray, I already had it on DVD, I just had to get it in high - definition to complete my collection as I had the other Daniel Craig Bonds on blu - ray.

The movie looks fantastic. The color saturation is incredible, especially upon my first watch. One thing in particular that stood out to me upon watching it for the first time in HD was Bond's arrival at the Ocean Club.

When he approaches the receptionist to check in, I noticed her name tag said "Catherine. It's little details like this that make watching a movie in HD so special.

The menu design is nice too, with playing cards flipping out towards the screen, showing moving images from the movie. Very well thought out. I also enjoyed the audio commentary by director Martin Campbell and producer Michael G.

Wilson, who gave some nice insights into the movie, such as why it took so long to properly adapt Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel to the screen legal issues.

Disc two has a trove of special features, including deleted scenes, several documentaries on Ian Fleming and the making of the movie, the casting of Daniel Craig, Chris Cornell's music video, "The Art of the Freerun," with Sebastian Foucan, who founded parkour and how they incorporated it into the movie, which went on to become one of the most famous foot chases in cinematic history, and "Bond Girls Are Forever," which covers the women of the Bond movies, hosted by Maryam d'Abo Kara in "The Living Daylights" and includes interviews with Eva Green Vesper Lynd and Catarina Moreno Solange Dimitrios.

All in all, Casino Royale is a must for Bond fans wanting the high - definition experience. See all reviews from the United States.

Top international reviews. Jones the Bond! Out of all of the modern Bond films, this is my favourite.

The actual card game in the Casino is my favourite part. Very tense and the poisoning part was just mind blowing! Great, great film and my favourite Bond film of the modern era.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Arrived in prompt time. Seen on dvd before which urged me to buy blu ray version.

This story a little weak, distinctive effects, it was notable inconsistant image quality. Actions set pieces okay. I suppose that you have to take this review with a small pinch of salt given that this is the first time I have purchased a blue ray disc having only just bought a player.

It was of course no mistake that I chose this film and I was compelled to see if I would notice a real difference. The clarity in this version is truly amazing and, yes, it really does add even more to what was already a great and gritty film.

If anything I think that the blue ray version emphasises and lays bare all that is good and bad in Bond himself and the world that he occupies.

I found that in this viewing I was much more able to enter his world and see and feel the emotions much more clearly.

This is quite a 'raw' bond who as Vesper suggests is perfect for M16 as they like 'dysfunctional' types. I think at times he is like that, brutally untrusting, wrestling with emotions that, when in doubt, he tries to drown completely and fails.

There are some powerful scenes including the frightening fight scene in the stairway of the Casino where afterwards we see Bond wiping away the blood and shakily drowning a very large scotch.

This is a brave version of Bond and much truer to Ian Fleming's original concept - warts and all. It's just that on blue ray you can see the good and bad much more vividly.

Top marks - a great production. I remember all the doom and gloom surrounding Daniel Craig's appointment to the title. I was sceptical too, but his first outing as Bond soon put everyone's fears to rest - Daniel Craig is easily the best Bond since Connery, and will undoubtedly surpass him if he keeps up in this vain Quantum of Solace was distinctly average, but Skyfall rectified that mistake Picture quality on this Bluray is simply outstanding.

Maybe not quite the polish of the more recent Skyfall disc which had the advantage of being filmed digitally , but pretty damn close.

Audio quality is good as well, although a handful of lines of dialogue sounded slightly muffled and indistinct at times.

Well worth the money, especially now that it is uncut! The presentation of this boxset is absolutely gorgeous - thick cardboard, great finishes, fantastic photography all over the box.

There's even a handy little booklet inside, very lavishly printed and containing some interesting factual snippets.

Again, it's also packed with gorgeous photography. It certainly feels very special, as it should: this is a definingly brilliant reboot of the Bond series, and this boxset is a worthy celebration of this fact.

Fantastic performances throughout, and a much better storyline than either of the films that bookend it within the series. The extras here are many, as one would expect with three discs.

They're all very well shot and very interesting, especially the "For Real" and "Death In Venice" featurettes.

For this reason alone it's worth buying this boxset. Get this while you can, you won't regret it. One person found this helpful. Load more international reviews.

At long last. This is the best Bond film in a long long time. When Moore checked out the world was not ready for a new rough and tough although Timothy Dalton in my humble opinion was perfectly cast.

I think Fleming would have thought so too. Now the world has changed, it has become a more dirty place than it was in the 70's and the '80's.

Now there is room for a rough and tough !!! Take a look. Take a good look. Oh yes. Good to have you back, mr. Recarding this edition incl. As always from Zoverstocks.

Glad to do business with you again. This is a fairly average james bond film. It's quite a different kind of a film from the previous films in the series,it feels like a prequel more than anything else.

Patrons get an ad-free experience and full access to our archives. Bond also learns that Le Chiffre always carries three razor blades with him: one in his hat band, one in his shoe heel, and one in his cigarette case.

Pat and Vanna say goodbye just before he leaves for his talk show gig. She approaches Bond and refreshes his memory of her. He cranks up the old turntable really loud with some Chopin, and they kiss passionately.

She begs him not to play baccarat with Le Chiffre. He walks her back to the elevator while we get a really obvious boom mike shadow following along and says she played her part well.

Nothing she said was really that earth-shattering. So whatever he said is completely missed. He says he has to win his 80 million back, and no one will stand in his way.

Which is really just a thinly veiled way of saying, watch it, sister. If I was a bad movie, I'd find it much easier to write about myself than I do at present.

My main interests outside of really bad movies is playing music. I've played guitar for 15 years, performed before far more people than I'm really comfortable with and am currently having fun listening to my 5 year old son bang away on his new starter drum set.

Yes, drummers are so hard to find, I had to resort to making my own. When not playing music, I also like to work in my yard and many gardens, try new recipes never would have thought that would happen , research my genealogy I get to be related to the beheaded king and queen of France!

And when I'm not doing any of that, then I'm spending time with my great family. The first movie I remember going to the theater to see was The Black Stallion which we were late to the beginning of and as we were waiting for it to begin again and rewatch it is that even legal?

First of all let me say that I think this is a great Bond film. Not that some earlier ones weren't, they were good for their era but it seems that now 'we' want a gritty hero, not a romantic vision of a spy.

In that I think DC plays the role very well. What did surprise me was that some of the film displayed poor image quality. The part that springs to mind is the scene in the embassy courtyard.

The camera switches from Bond to his persuers and back and forth again. The change in definition quality changes dramaticaly between one and the other camera shot.

I thought I must have a fault but a friend at work had noticed the same thing. Strange for a recent film to have this problem.

Still, a great Bond film. It says this movie is minutes in the information part of the screen, on the "Single Disc Edition", but on the DVD I received, it states minutes.

So this DVD has six minutes censored, without letting us know. I bought this DVD as opposed to the others where the screened information states minutes, precisely because it stated that this DVD was minutes.

Dishonest or mistake??? A weak story line acting as a vehicle for the totally contrived and unrelated special effects and stunts.

Those effects were, in themselves, very well done and quite entertaining. This was not the case with the variant of poker that was featured instead of Baccarat, as in the book.

There was no attempt to explain the rules to the audience, many of whom may have had only a passing familiarity with the standard game of poker.

The producers said that they wanted to make the film as close to the book as possible, so why drop baccarat in favour of Texas Hold-em poker?

In many other ways the film was nothing like the book. The Blu-ray presentation was excellent in terms of both sound and vision.

Tom Kenmare. Daniel Craig fits the role perfectly- a ruthless risk-taker and of course womaniser. He is certainly the most butch Bond.

His physical prowess is second only to Sean Connery's. The plot is excellent and Mads Mikklesen makes a very good baddy, cool and deeply unpleasant.

The torture scene is brutal. Conan the Destroyer , a recap part 1 of 6. Conan the Destroyer , a recap part 4 of 6. Venom , a recap part 6 of 7.
